TANGERANG: In a bid to prevent domestic violence, the Tangerang municipal administration has sponsored Paralegal, an organization comprised of community members and administration officials, an official said Friday.
"The organization's members are trained social workers from all 13 districts in the municipality," said Lilis Nawangsih, the head of the empowerment and children's protection division at the municipality's Empowerment Board.
Paralegal members will take an active role to cope with violent cases and act as mediators should domestic violence happen in the their respective subdistricts, she said.
Lilis said the administration had also distributed leaflets and brochures containing social messages calling on community members to remain aware of domestic violence. Domestic violence in Tangerang municipality previously decreased after residents were familiarized with preventive efforts, she added. - JP
