Letter: The future of Papua
The Jakarta Post | Mon, 08/09/2010 11:31 AM
This is my comment on the independence movement in Papua. Frankly, I am not big on history. Rather, I am more concerned about the future.
Can anyone be 100 percent-freaking-sure that Papua when becoming independent will be a new-born successful nation-state? What is the chance of the state becoming a failed state such as certain examples in Africa?
You can’t depend on the Western world. As Asians, how many more times must we suffer as a consequence of relying on others? It is better to stay united and self-reliant, rather than be a split nation giving others a chance to exploit you.
Think of the US, it is strong because it is made up of many united states that stick together.
Work together and improve the life of the people. Furthermore, I am a supporter of the current President of Indonesia, and I believe he is different from the previous leaders who sent troops.
