Complete ban of porn sites impossible: Minister

The complete ban of porn websites in observance of the Ramadan fasting month is impossible, the Minister of Communication and Information, Tifatul Sembiring said Tuesday.

"A one hundred percent ban is impossible but it's the effort that counts," he said on Tuesday.

He added that he did not know yet how many porn websites the ministry could block pending a meeting with Internet service providers later in the afternoon.

He also added that the blocking will be keyword based.

"The filtering will be based on keywords, not the website [names]," he said, adding that the keyword list would be updated regularly to accommodate new keywords associated with porn websites. (gzl)
