Entertainment venues may open during Ramadan: MUI Bali

A- A A+

As one of world’s favorite tourism destinations, Bali will remain open and hyped throughout Ramadan. The Bali Ulemas Council (MUI Bali) says it is OK for all nightclubs and bars in Bali to remain open during the month-long fast.

“Bali is very tolerant. God willing, we will not see any trouble during this year’s Ramadan [in Bali],” MUI Bali chief M. Taufik said Tuesday. Most Balinese are Hindu.

Speaking about entertainment spots, Taufik said they would not interfere with Muslims conducting the fast.

“The main point of fasting is to control ourselves. Muslims must be able to maintain their devotion to God. We should not ask other people to adapt to our way of praying,” he said.
