Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto said Tuesday that although there were indications of security threat, he guaranteed that the national Independence Day celebration on Aug. 17 would be secure.
“Insya Allah (God willing), it will be secure. The security authorities are aware [of the threats],” Djoko told reporters at the State Palace in Jakarta.
The National Police arrested a number of terror suspects during raids in West Java on Monday.
The police said there were plans to carry out bomb attacks aimed at President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and also attacks during the Independence Day celebration and also against the National Police Headquarters and a number of embassies.
