Street races banned in capital during Ramadan

Jakarta Police will on Tuesday begin a campaign of evening operations to stop illegal street races during the fasting month.

Those caught during the operation risk the confiscation of their registration papers (STNK) and motorcycles.

According to the police website, the documents and motorcycles would be returned after Ramadan.

The daily operation will be conducted between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m..

Some 200 officers will be deployed to stand by at conventional street race sites across the city, including Mampang, Tebet, Jl. Panjang and Gang Buncit.
