The government is preparing to build four new terminals worth Rp 22 trillion (US$2.4 billion) at Tanjung Priok port in North Jakarta.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa said Wednesday the new terminals would provide more space for the increasing number of cargo containers handled by the port.
“We will gradually build the terminals,” he said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com, adding that the groundbreaking for one new terminal would be conducted this year.
State-run port operator Pelindo II director RJ Lino said by 2013, the port would have a total of 10 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) for containers. Currently, the port has four million TEUs, he added.
