JAKARTA: The Jakarta Police were to begin on Tuesday evening a major crackdown on illegal street racing ahead of Ramadan.

The Police said they would confiscate vehicles used in races in addition to vehicle ownership documents (STNK).

The confiscated STNK and vehicles would then be returned after Ramadan. The police will conduct raids daily from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Two hundred officers will be involved in the effort, which will raid several streets commonly used for racing, including Mampang, Tebet, Jl. Panjang, and Warung Buncit.

Members of the public are encouraged to report street racing to the nearest police office or by text message to 1717, the police added. — JP
