DENPASAR: Head of Bali branch of central bank (BI) Jeffry Kairupan has announced that he expected the Balinese economy to continue to flourish this year.

“The majority of large to small-medium enterprises in Bali are optimistic about their business outlook,” Kairupan said during a seminar on facing global economic challenges here on Thursday.

He went further, saying BI had conducted a survey that showed positive indicators.

In the second quarter of 2010, businesses in Bali experienced a significant increase.

The survey reveals that despite the implementation of Asean-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) effective since early 2010, most local businesses were able to survive and increase productivity in the face of mounting challenges.

Hotelier Bagus Sudibya said the number of visitors coming to Bali has been increasing steadily.

Young businessmen Viraguna Bagoes Oka and Gede Agus Hardyawan shared Sudibya’s optimism, saying the Balinese people were productive and creative.

“We are certain that Bali’s economic condition will remain lucrative.” — JP
