JAKARTA: The city administra-tion plans to bring anyone caught organizing beggars in the capital to court.

This step is taken to anticipate the influx of beggars streaming into the city each year during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

“We will report these people to the police,” Public Order Agency head Effendi Anas told kompas.com on Thursday.

Effendi said one person could organize between 20 and 30 beggars. From each person, these bosses could make between Rp 30,000 (US$3.50) and Rp 280,000 a day.

“If we caught just one of these bosses, some 30 beggars would be removed from the streets,” he said. — JP
