Soekarno-Hatta airport ready to anticipate surge in Idul Fitri revelers

State airport company PT Angkasa Pura II expressed its readiness on Friday to accommodate a surge in the number Lebaran revelers.

Indonesia's largest aiport, Soekarno-Hatta airport, it manages has been prepared to accommodate up to 2.19 million passengers during the celebration of Idul Fitri after the Ramadan fasting month.

Secretary of PT Angkasa Pura II Hari Cahyono explained that the busiest activities at the airport would be recorded from Sept. 3 to Sept. 16, when the airport would serve an average of 137,000 passengers  per day.

“The peak of the exodus (out of Jakarta to celebrate Idul Fitri with relatives in the passengers' home towns) was predicted to take place on Sept. 7 with an estimated 164,822 passengers, while the peak of the influx would be on Sept. 16 with 162,543 passengers,” Hari said on Friday.

“We've made a number of efforts to optimally utilize our human resources, including intensive briefing for the security personnel and technical workers as well as reorganization and expansion of overnight parking facilities at the haj terminal area,” Hari as quoted by the kompos.com news portal.

He further explained that his company also would prevent the operation of illegal porters.
