Where is National Police chief?

The whereabouts of National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri looked like a mystery on Friday after he canceled a plan to swear in a number of high-ranking officers.

Deputy National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Ketut Untung Yoga said the police chief had to indefinitely delay the ceremony due to an urgent meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. “For that reason the swearing-in ceremony has been delayed,” Yoga said.

The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place at 8 a.m., but until 9 a.m. Bambang did not turn up.

But Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto confirmed Bambang did not meet the President.

“He was not here. I am not lying, because I am fasting you know,” Djoko said at the State Palace as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Djoko said the President received Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo and National Development Planning Minister Armida Alisjahbana on Friday morning to discuss preparation for the state union address at the House of Representatives on Aug. 16.

Yoga said he was not aware that the President was not scheduled to receive the police chief. “I don’t know. That was the information I received,” he said.

Bambang also failed to turn up for presentation of state medals by the President to 10 prominent figures at the State Palace at 2 p.m. The police chief had been invited to the ceremony.

Bambang has come under fire for breaking his promise to reveal key evidence indicating graft within the Corruption Eradication Commission. Instead of providing wiretapped conversation recordings between KPK deputy Ade Rahardja, who is a police general, and suspected case broker Ary Muladi, the National Police only submitted call data records to prove the two people were in touch.
