Floods inundated six villages in Cilacap, Central Java, Saturday following a heavy rain that poured since Friday night.

Wahyudiono, head of one of the flooded villages told Antara news agency Saturday that dozens of houses in his village were submerged but the flood waters had started receding.

"This morning, the flood waters which inundated 79 houses had begun receding. But about 116 hectares of paddy fields remain submerged," he said.

Besides inundating tens of houses and 116 hectares of paddy fields in Mekarsari village, the floods also submerged 300 hectares of rice fields in four villages in Majenang.

Separately, head of Cilacap's natural disaster response unit, Sabar, said the heavy rains had also destroyed a dike in the Cikuya River in Surusunda village.

As a result, flash floods inundated the village's neighborhood areas, including 42 hectares of villagers' paddy fields.
