Govt to raise civil servants' salary by 10%

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono revealed on Monday that his government would increase the basic salary of all civil servants, military and police personnel as well as pensioners by 10 percent next year.

With the new increase, Yudhoyono said that the take-home pay for the lowest-rank civil servants would increase from Rp 1.9 million (US$210) to Rp 2 million per month.

Meanwhile, the lowest take hope pay for the lowest-rank teachers would increase from Rp 2.5 million a month to Rp 2.65 million, while the lowest-rank military and police officers would get Rp 2.62 million a month from Rp 2.5 million now.

The improvement in the civil servants' welfare is expected to bring about improvement in public service, Yudhoyono said.
