Surabaya State Court handed down a two-year prison sentence to Karangpilang tax officer Suhertanto over tax fraud and embezzlement.
Presiding judge Legowo said in his verdict that the panel of judges found Suhertanto guilty for participating in a scam and tax embezzlement to a taxpayer, private company PT Putra Mapan Sentosa, causing a total of Rp 933 million (US$104,071) in losses.
“The suspect has violated Article 55 of the Criminal Law,” said Legowo as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
The court found that Suhertanto had played a significant role in forging validation tax payment of PT Putra Mapan Sentosa, which is owned by Devid Sentono, he added.
The fraud was led by the company’s tax consultant, Agustri Juanidi.
Suhertanto said that he would challenge the verdict. Meanwhile the prosecutors, who requested a four-year of imprisonment, said that they would consider the sentence.
