YOGYAKARTA: Prompt solidarity among users of the Twitter social networking site helped collect donations to help the family of Wednesday’s suicide mother pay hospital expenses and debts.

The donations movement was closed on Thursday after having collected nearly Rp 24 million (US$2680), group coordinator Pungkas Riandika said.

The group was set up following the death of two boys who were killed by their mother when she committed suicide by setting herself and them on fire.

“We learned from what we did that we can use online media to help the community in other ways,” Pungkas said Friday.

Khoir Umi Latifah, 25, committed suicide on Wednesday and murdered her two sons, 4-year-old Muhammad Lindu Aji and 2.5-year-old Muhammad Dwi Arya Saputra, allegedly due to depression from financial hardship. — JP
