Expres Air skids off runway in Makassar

A- A A+

A Dornier 328 plane belonging to private airliner Express Air skidded off the runway at Makassar’s Sultan Hasanuddin Airport upon landing from Bau-bau in Southeast Sulawesi on Wednesday morning.

All the 21 passengers, including a baby, and air crews survived the accident uninjured.

Spokesman for the Makassar office of state airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I, Kintoro, said the aircraft swung to the right 500 meters before reaching the end of the runway. He suspected the plane developed a brake problem.

He added that despite the drizzle, the weather was considered not dangerous for aviation activities.

The accident barely disrupted the traffic at the airport, as PT Angkasa Pura I had already operated two runways.

A team from the National Committee for Transportation Safety is expected to arrive later in the day to investigate into the accident.
