State-owned bank PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk (BNI) will increase the supply of cash to Rp 37.9 trillion (US$4.2 million) to fulfill the need for cash ahead of and during the Idul Fitri holidays.
The money will be distributed to 4,011 automatic teller machines and 967 branch offices of the bank, BNI operational and IT manager Suwoko Singoastro said Thursday.
BNI predicts the need for cash will climb by 30 percent between Aug. 25 and Sept. 19. This year’s Idul Fitri is expected to fall on Sept. 10 and 11.
“During Idul Fitri holidays, our ATMs will be monitored online through the BNI Command Center at our head office in Jakarta. The facility will allow us to automatically monitor our information system and technology, including ATMs,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.
The state bank will also open 20 of its branch offices on Sept. 11 and Sept. 13 to serve the public who wish to withdraw or transfer money. Weekend services will remain operational in 27 outlets as usual, Suwoko said.
