State railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) launched special carriages for women traveling the Jakarta-Bogor route Thursday.

Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi and Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Linda Amalia Sari attended the launch ceremony at Depok train station in West Java.

KAI is to launch 20 carriages for women traveling the route. On Thursday, KAI launched 10 series of the carriages; one series consists of eight railway wagons, two of which are for women only.

The company will segregate the queue for the women’s railway wagons and will provide a conductress.

Children under the age of 10 are allowed to use the women wagons, if they are accompanied by older female relatives.
