The Tangerang legislative council has urged the regency administration to close down liquor producer PT Aneka Inti Bima in Kosambi district, citing protests from ulemas and Islamic groups.
Chairman of the council’s legal commission Sapri said on Friday a number of community groups such as the Kosambi Ulema Council, Forum Betawi Rempug (FBR) and Laskar Mujahidin Tangerang (LMT), had protested the company for producing and distributing alcoholic drink. The content of alcohol in the beverage product reportedly reaches 15 percent.
“We recommended the closure during a meeting with the regency secretary, the assistant to regional secretary for administration, and officials from the public order agency and the legal affairs bureau,” Sapri said.
He said irregularities had marred the operation of the factory since its inception two years ago. The company obtained license from the Industry Ministry and the office of the Health Ministry and Food and Drug Controlling Agency (BP POM) to produce soft drink.
Kadminta, head of operation and people’s protection unit at the public order agency, called on regional leaders to discuss the matter as soon as possible.
