Dozens of people attacked a police office, pelting stones at the building, in Mimika Baru in Mimika, Papua, on Saturday morning. Police had to fire warning shots to disperse the crowd.

News portal tempointeraktif.com reported that there were rumors was a person was shot in the commotion, however, Mimika Police chief Adj. Comr. Muhammad Sagi denied the rumors.

Sagi said that the attack began when police officers warned a group of people who were partying near the police office on Friday night.

“The officers went back after giving the warning, because they were powerless to disperse the party,” Sagi said.

On Saturday morning at around 6:30 a.m. local time, dozens of people came to the office reporting that police officers had also been drunk at the party and hit a resident.

“We had a talk over it and afterwards the people leave the office, but they later came back and pelted the office,” Sagi said.

Situation at the Mimika Baru Police office was under control after the attack, but tens of people were still seen grouping near the office.
