An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale rocked Yogyakarta and its surroundings areas at 6:41 p.m. on Saturday.
According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicenter of the earthquake was located 15 kilometers to the southwest of Bantul at a depth of 10 kilometers under the sea or 8.03 degree of the south latitude and 110.39 degree of east longitude.
BMKG said that the earthquake did not have the potential to cause tsunami, kompas.com reported. Residents of Gunung Kidul regency said they felt the strong trembler, but it took place only in several seconds.
The same was also felt by residents of the regencies of Bantul and Sleman and Yogyakarta city.
