The Athens Geodynamic Institute says a moderate magnitude 5.4 earthquake has struck off the coast of the Greek island of Kakynthos.
The quake hit at 1:23 p.m. (1023 GMT), 65 kilometers (40 miles) off the island of Zakynthos.
Firefighters say no damage has been reported on the island, noting that buildings there have been built under especially strict standards following a damaging series of earthquakes in 1953.
Earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 and over are fairly common in Greece.
