ENPASAR: Bali administration is deliberating a proposed bylaw on waste management, a senior official stated Saturday.
“The draft bylaw will be completed in the next few months. Now we are compiling input and suggestions from relevant parties and community figures on this matter,” Bali Environmental Agency head AAG Alit Sastrawan said.
The administration plans to submit the bylaw to the Provincial Legislative Council by the end of this year. It is expected that, by mid-2011, every regency in Bali would have passed a similar bylaw.
“This bylaw is a critical piece of legislation in our effort to transform Bali into a green province.”
The bylaw requires stronger public participation in garbage management and imposes sanctions.
“The bylaw will make it mandatory for garbage producers, including households and individuals, to carry out certain measures to process their waste,” he warned. —JP
