Letter: Separate coaches for women

A- A A+

This is a comment on an article titled “Will separate coaches lead to safer trip for passengers?” (Aug. 20).
It’s a good solution that will contain problems for a short-term, but not for a long-term.

Soon enough the female passengers will realize that the same perverts, though can’t harass them inside the wagons, can still continue to harass them outside.

The ultimate key is to make men understand, by literally showing them, that they can’t harass women.

I’m lucky I was raised by a proud woman who taught me that boys and girls are equal and thus boys have no rights to make girls feel bad about themselves by hurling insults and groping their hands around.

I learned to react when such harassment occurred. I have screamed, swung kicks into nether regions, slapped faces, or simply thumped by stiletto heels on perverts — including at a busy bar in Los Angeles and a rather quiet alley in Manhattan.

Physical separation will not stop harassment until men know that they can’t harass women, because the women firmly tell them so. Girls, take charge! Tell them off!
