The National Police Commission plans to start discussing National Police chief candidates next week.
"We will possibly start the discussion either this week or next week," commission chairman Djoko Suyanto said as quoted by Antara news agency Monday.
Djoko, who is also coordinating minister for political, security and legal affairs, said he would evaluate resume of candidates and submit recommendations to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono before the current police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri retires in October.
Apart from the normative requirements for the new chief such as integrity, capability and capacity, candidates for the police force’s top post should be able to complete police reform as public service provider and community protector, Djoko added.
Member of the police commission Adnan Raja Pandu said the verification of eight candidates would be conducted in September.
Adnan said the commission would involve other state institutions to make sure the candidates had never been implicated in corruption, human rights abuse and tax fraud cases.
"We will examine track records of the candidates and after the names are announced we will see how the public respond to the nominees," he said.
