Jagakarsa Police admits to flaws in recent illegal liquor raids

Jagakarsa Police chief Comr. H. Sianturi admitted his officers had made mistakes when conducting routine raids on illegal liquor sellers to welcome the Ramadan fasting month a week ago.

As a result, eleven men have reportedly died as of Tuesday after consuming illegal liquor, which was allegedly sold by a herbalist in Jagakarsa last weekend.

“We cracked down on stalls that were possibly selling illegal liquor a week ago, but we did not raid the herbal drink vendors. We had no idea that herbalists would sell such hazardous homemade liquor,” Sianturi said as quoted by kompas.com.

Following the recent incident, the police are planning to raid herbal drink stalls in the near future, he added.
