The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has called on public officials both in the central and regional governments to turn down parcels or gifts ahead of Idul Fitri holiday as they could be classified as gratuity.
“We appeal to public officials not to accept parcels, but encourage them to provide gifts to their subordinates,” KPK deputy chairman for prevention M. Jasin said as quoted by Antara news agency during a visit to Makassar on Tuesday.
Jasin said KPK could not prohibit public officials from accepting parcels as the practice had been in place for a long time in the country.
South Sulawesi governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo supported the KPK’s call. He said he had long refrained from accepting parcels
“I stopped receiving parcels quite a long time ago, but have regularly given parcels to lower-ranking government officials,” Syahrul said.
