Kartasura killer body count now 4

Police say that a masseur has confessed to killing four people near Kartasura, Central Java, over the last 10 years — and believe the alleged serial killer may have slain two others.

”So far, we think the murders were related to mystic rituals to seek wealth,” Central Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Edward Aritonang in Semarang said Thursday.

The murders first came to light when the police found a body under the home of the alleged killer, Yulianto, which was later discovered to be Sec. Cpl. Santoso, an Indonesian Army Special Forces soldier based in Kartasura.

On Aug. 23, police exhumed a second body at a nearby goat pen and found the skeleton of Sugiyo, Yulianto’s hometown neighbor. Yulianto told interrogators that he killed a neighbor, Sugiyo, seven years ago for failure to repay a debt.

Police allege that Yulinato also confessed to murdering his pregnant girlfriend, Siti Rohani, who he buried on the slopes of Mount Merapi in 1990 and his colleague, Suhardi, with whom he shared a love of the supernatural, in 2006.

“The suspect also admitted to having killed two other people in separate places," Edward said.
