The selection committee for the new chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has given two candidate names to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
The committee finally announced their pick: Judicial Commission chairman Muhammad Busyro Muqoddas and human rights activist Bambang Widjojanto.
The candidate names were proposed to Yudhoyono and Vice President Boediono by the selection team, led by Justice and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar, in a closed meeting at the Presidential Office on Friday.
In his final interview, Bambang said several steps could be taken to improve the situation, such as developing capacity building and synergy, and consolidating law enforcement.
“The KPK’s three divisions — prevention, enforcement and monitoring — have not yet been integrated,” he said.
Bambang also suggested that an online monitoring system could process the 7,900 reports received by the KPK each year.
