Jimly vows to keep supporting KPK

JAKARTA: Jimly Asshiddiqie was not disappointed in the selection process for the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) top post.

“I promise that I will support the KPK in its fight against corruption,” the former Constitutional Court chief and presidential adviser said Sunday, adding that the two candidates who made it through to the final selection test before the House of Representatives, former Judicial Commission Busyro Muqoddas and lawyer Bambang Widjojanto, were equally qualified.

Corruption eradication is crucial to strengthening democracy and achieving good governance, Jimly said. “The stronger the fight against graft, the better the democracy,” Jimly said, as quoted by Antara.

Jimly stressed, however, that the country could not solely rely on the KPK to combat corruption. Public officials must also support the anti-graft drive by helping to clean their own workplaces, he added. — JP
