TIMIKA: Bishop Monsigur John Philiph Saklil, Pr has called on residents of Timika, Mimika regency, Papua, to shield themselves from infection of HIV/AIDS.
He spoke to a Catholic congregation made up of Kamoro Tribe members in Timika, on Monday. Reminding them of the deadly threat of the virus, the bishop told the people to employ religious values in their daily lives.
“I ask Catholics from Kamoro, and in general all Catholics, to guard themselves from the threat of HIV virus,” he said.
Monsigur urged the people to do away with alcohol, which he said contributed to the virus’ spread.
He justified that statement by saying people under the effect of alcohol would be more prone to engage in unprotected sex.
