Police officers opened fire at hundreds of angry local people who ransacked Biau police station in the Central Sulawesi regency of Buol, killing at least one and wounding three others.
Director of the Central Sulawesi People’s Legal Aid Association, Mohammad Masykur, identified the fatality as Iwan. The body had been admitted to the local state hospital, Masykur added.
“Our volunteers are identifying the three people injured,” Masykur said as quoted by Antara news agency.
A witness, Ricky Muda, identified one of the wounded people as Umar, who suffered gunshot wound in his right cheek.
The attack followed the death of local resident, Kasmir Timumun, a motorcycle taxi driver, while being detained at the police office on Monday. Bruises found in many parts of his body, sparking allegations that he had been tortured before he died.
