Tifatul threatens to ban BlackBerry service over pornographic content

Communication and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring has threatened to shut down BlackBerry services in Indonesia if its producer, Research In Motion Ltd., refuses to block pornographic content.

Tifatul requested RIM block all adult content from BlackBerry services in Indonesia.  “If they do not respond to our request, we will have to close them down,” he added, as quoted by kompas.com.

The banning of pornographic web sites on the Internet in Indonesia is in line with the 2008 anti-pornography law, Tifatul said.

“RIM violates our law if it’s service in Indonesia continues providing pornographic content,” he said.
