Five people were reportedly killed after police officers opened fire on hundreds of angry local people who ransacked Biau police station in the Central Sulawesi regency of Buol last night.
At least 19 police officers were wounded in the incident, Antara state news agency reported Wednesday
Buol Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Amin Litarso said the mob had also damaged police property and facilities.
The attack followed the death of local resident, Kasmir Timumun, a motorcycle taxi driver, while he was being detained at the police station on Monday. Bruises were found on many parts of his body, sparking allegations that he had been tortured before he died.
