DENPASAR: Balinese musicians and activists held three charity music concerts to support prominent Indonesian musician Franky Sahilatua, who is fighting cancer in a Singaporean hospital.

The concerts were held at Porkys Resto in Renon and Twice Bar in Kuta and involved local bands and singers such as Superman is Dead, the Day after Rain, Dialog Dini Hari and Aray.

The proceeds of the charity concerts will go to Franky’s wife.

Wayan Suardhana, or Gendo, said the concerts aimed to support Franky who has long supported
the development of Indonesia’s music scene.

Franky is known for his outspoken lyrics exposing social issues in many of his song compositions.

“He also stands strong as a guardian of freedom of artistic expression in the country,” Suardhana said. — JP
