Two police officers, a businessman and a civil servant were charged Thursday for their alleged involvement in a recently uncovered military style terrorist training camp in Aceh.
They face charges ranging from planning attacks to supplying firearms to a terrorist organization, which carry a maximum punishment of life in prison.
The police officers were First Brig. Tatang Mulyadi and First Brig. Abdi Tunggal Bin Adam. They were tried at the East Jakarta District Court. Also standing trial separately was businessman Ahmad Sutrisno, an alleged middleman who connected the two officers with terror suspect, Sofyan Tsauri, a former police officer.
Prosecutor Muhammad Nasir said police arrested the three in March this year following Tsauri’s arrest in Cimanggis, just south of Jakarta, several days prior.
The prosecutors charged that the three had provided firearms to the Aceh paramilitary training camp up until January.
