JAKARTA: Central Jakarta District Court on Wednesday ordered the owners of Buddha Bar to close the controversial bar and restaurant citing an inappropriate use of the religion’s name and icons for entertainment purposes.
The court also fined the city administration, the city tourism agency and bar management PT Nireta Visa Creative Rp 1 billion (US$111,000) for immaterial damages.
The plaintiff, the Anti-Buddha Bar Forum, and its supporters said they were satisfied with the verdict.
Buddha Bar attorney Kurnia Girsang, meanwhile, said his client would file an appeal. — JP
