A magnitude-5 earthquake struck off Sinabang, Aceh on early Thursday, but there was no report of damage or injury.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency reported that the quake hit at 7:57 a.m. and was centered at 45 kilometers northwest of Sinabang at 18 kilometers beneath the surface.
Earlier this year, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Aceh and damaged at more than 1,000 houses in a number of regencies.
The province, which is located on the northern tip of Sumatra Island, was the worst hit area when the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami struck.
