Former National Police detective chief Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji denied accusations on Thursday that he had ever received or been promised to receive Rp 500 million in bribe from suspected case broker Sjahril Djohan.
Susno also said in his testimony in the trial of Sjahril at the South Jakarta District Court that he never asked for Rp 3.5 billion from junior tax officer Gayus Halomoan Tambunan through the defendant in exchange for his approval of a request to reopen Gayus’ frozen bank accounts worth Rp 28 billion.
“I am an active high-ranking police officer and was a detective chief. It’s stupid if I disclose a judicial mafia case but I received bribes or was promised to receive bribes. That means I send myself to jail,” Susno told the court hearing as quoted by kompas.com.
He said he had never asked Sjahril for Rp 500 million to change a fraud case involving PT Salmah Arwana Lestari arowana fish breeding company from a civil into a criminal case.
“In the name of Allah, I have never accepted bribes,” Susno said.
Prosecutors said in their indictment that Gayus’ lawyer Haposan Hutagalung called off a plan to transfer money to Susno as the latter was dismissed as the National Police detective chief.
Haposan, however, said he did give Susno Rp 500 million related to the fish breeding company case.
