Thousands of workers of Adidas shoe maker PT Panarub Industry rallied outside the regional tax office on Jl. Imam Bonjol in Tangerang municipality on Thursday to protest their Idul Fitri bonus cut.

The workers unfurled banners and posters to express their protest against the holiday bonus cut, which their employer said was compulsory in accordance with the income tax law.

“We pay our income tax here, so we need the office’s explanation,” one of the protesters, Yanto, said.

According to Yanto, the employer cut the workers’ Idul Fitri bonus by between 5 and 10 percent depending on their term of service.

A security officer told the workers they came to the wrong place, saying they should ask for explanation from another tax office on Jl. TMP Taruna, near the Tangerang municipal administration office complex.
