Banten police deployed on Friday nearly 2,000 officers to protect holiday makers traveling to their hometowns to celebrate Idul Fitri.
Banten Police chief Brig. Gen. Agus Kusnadi said the officers, backed up by 120 military soldiers and 400 civilian guards, would be stationed at all places vulnerable to crimes as part of an operation which will last until Sept. 18.
“I am giving a shoot on sight order, but I want to make sure the officers are equipped with weapons not for a display,” Agus said.
The security personnel include 10 snipers from the Mobile Brigade, who will be posted at Merak seaport.
Agus said the police would pay attention to thefts, riot, deception, acts of terror and thuggery during the operation.
Serang police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Krisnandi added that the police would also conduct patrols to secure empty houses of holiday revelers.
