Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra erupted again early Friday, with volcanologists calling this latest one stronger than two previous eruptions.
Surono head of the Medan-based Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) said there had been “energy piling” after the last eruption on Monday, leading to stronger eruption on Friday.
The Friday eruption occurred at around 4:45 a.m., with thundering sounds and shocks heard and felt minutes before the eruption by residents few kilometers away from the volcano, kompas.com reported.
All residents living nearest to the volcano evacuated with help form security personnel.
