Golkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie considers exercise of the House of Representatives interpellation right in connection with the ongoing row with Malaysia unnecessary as President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has taken the right measures.
Unlike government critics who lashed out at the government for being too soft to Malaysia, Aburizal praised the president for his “quick, firm and correct actions” in handling the dispute.
The president, Aburizal told Antara news agency on the sidelines of his visit to Aceh on Friday, did everything right for defending the national interest and keeping good relations with Malaysia as one of Indonesia's close neighbors.
Golkar, Aburizal said, supported the diplomatic approach the president had chosen to solve the dispute with Malaysia, which was triggered by the Aug. 13 sea border incident near Bintan Island. Malaysian marine police arrested three Indonesian fisheries officers who were capturing seven Malaysian fishermen for allegedly poaching in Indonesian waters.
In his speech to respond the border dispute, Yudhoyono called for speedy settlement of the border dispute through dialogue.
