The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) said Sunday it found 40,000 expired food sold during the Ramadan fasting month across the country.
BPOM head Kustantinah said most of the expired foods were found in big cities like Jakarta and Surabaya.
"In big cities, food demand is higher than small cities," she said as quoted by kompas.com.
She warned businessmen to monitor the quality of the foods they sold to customers and called on them to abide by regulations.
