South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo has lambasted the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) for its low absorption of local rice crops.
"So far, Bulog only realizes 25 percent of its plan to absorb 450,000 unhusked rice," he said on Saturday.
The South Sulawesi unhusked rice output is estimated to reach 4.9 million tons this year.
Due to Bulog's low absorption, local farmers preferred to sell their crops outside the Sulawesi island.
"It's good for farmers to have a market outside the province, but it will endanger our province rice stock," he said.
He urged the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa to use the allocated fund of Rp 8 trillion (US$900 million) to buy the province rice output.
