JAKARTA: Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) has found that 91 defendants in graft cases were acquitted in the first half of 2010
AKARTA: Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) has found that 91 defendants in graft cases were acquitted in the first half of 2010.
ICW researcher Donal Fariz said Sunday the number represents just less than 55 percent of 166 defendants in 103 corruption cases heard in district courts (82 cases), high courts (seven cases), and the Supreme Court (14 cases).
“Those who found guilty mostly received one or two years in prison. District courts handed down sentences averaging 12 months and 13 days in jail to those convicted of corruption,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.
ICW urged the Supreme Court to investigate to find the chief cause behind the acquittal of graft defendants in the lower courts. — JP
