Palu Police and Palu Immigration Office personnel are pursuing an illegal immigrant from Afghanistan, who managed to flee a crackdown in Mutiara Palu Airport on Sunday night.

During the raid, the immigration officers arrested four other Afghans, who are identified as Babai Ali, 48, Azer Husain Mohebbi, 35, Ali Reza, 18, and Wali Khan Khan, 28, said Palu Immigration Safe House head Yusuf Dadu. The illegal visitors have been detained at the safe house, he added.

Yusuf said that the team has identified the escapee. “I’m sure the fugitive is hiding somewhere. But we are confident we will arrest him soon,” Yusuf said Monday as quoted by kompas.com.

Yusuf said that the five Afghans were about to visit the United Nations High Commissioners for Refugess (UNHCR) office branch in Makassar, before heading to Australia to seek refuge. They did not have passports or visas to travel in Indonesia, he added.

“The only document they posses is just a recommendation letter for refugee issued by the UNHCR,” said Yusuf.
