TANGERANG: Starting Saturday, Banten Police began to focus more on monitoring traffic between Merak in Cilegon municipality and Cikande in Serang regency.

Banten Police chief Brig. Gen. Agus Kusnadi said this section of road was a regular route taken by travelers riding motorcycles who bound for Sumatra for the Idul Fitri holiday.

“We are prioritizing operations on the Merak-Cikande section because this is the most crowded road section during the Idul Fitri holiday season,” Agus said.

He said the motorcyclists were from Tangerang, Jakarta, Bekasi, Depok, Bogor and Bandung.

Agus also warned holiday commuters traveling by car of repair works along the Tangerang–Merak toll road.

“Many parts of the toll road are under repair and therefore pose a traffic danger to holiday travelers,” he said, adding that he had asked toll road operator PT Mandala Marga Sakti to have the repair works completed as soon as possible. — JP
