Air Force officer Col. Adjie Suradji said Tuesday he was ready for any punishment to be handed down to him for openly criticizing President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who is also the Indonesian Military (TNI) supreme commander.
“I give the matter up to the Air Force. I don’t mind if I am dismissed from the force,” Adjie said as quoted by Antara state news agency.
He said he had been reprimanded after his opinion piece appeared in Kompas daily on Monday. The article, titled “Leader, Courage and Changes” has since then sparked a controversy.
TNI chief Gen. Djoko Santoso said Adjie had committed a serious violation of the military code of ethics.
Adjie admitted he was being implicated in a legal case.
Air Force spokesman Commodore Bambang Samoedro said Adjie was accused of practicing politics, which has been declared a taboo since the inception of military reform in 1998.
